Dr. Mark Lawrence is a Professor of Practice and Associate Program Chair in Information Communication Technology at New Mexico State University, where he leads initiatives to integrate emerging technologies into cybersecurity education. With a Ph.D. in Cyber Defense from Dakota State University, his research explores novel approaches to multi-factor authentication and IoT security. Dr. Lawrence teaches a range of cybersecurity courses, recently expanding his curriculum to incorporate AI modules to better prepare students for the evolving threat landscape.
In addition to his work at NMSU, Dr. Lawrence teaches HIPAA and AI safety practices to Doctor of Physical Therapy students at the University of Texas at El Paso, emphasizing privacy and regulatory compliance in healthcare technology. As an active member of the NSA’s Center of Academic Excellence community, he is helping shape national standards for cybersecurity education. His commitment to academic innovation and student success has been recognized with multiple awards, including the Ed Foreman Faculty Excellence Award and the Donald C. Roush Excellence in Teaching Award. Dr. Lawrence’s work bridges cybersecurity, AI integration, and privacy education, driving forward-thinking approaches both in the classroom and in professional practice.
